| ‘ZOLADEX’ (goserelin) is one of the very effective hormonal treatments for prostate cancer available today |
The patient has been prescribed ZOLADEX because this drug has a proven track record of clinical success in treating prostate cancer, improving survival time, when used as adjuvant to radiotherapy or radical prostactectomy, and enhancing patient quality of life.
In most patients, the cells of the prostate that grow out of control to form prostate cancer continue to replicate under stimulation by naturally occurring androgen hormones such as testosterone. It is the job of ZOLADEX to reduce testosterone production and so remove the growth stimulus for the cancer cells within the prostate.
This hormonal effect of ZOLADEX shrinks the prostate tumour and slows down the development of new prostate cancer cells. These effects can bring symptomatic relief in the majority of patients and may effectively increase patient survival time. In non-metastatic disease, when used as adjuvant to radiotherapy (RT) or radical prostatectomy (RP) ZOLADEX has been proven to increase survival in several large and independent clinical studies. In advanced disease, ZOLADEX has been shown to be as effective as surgical castration in a number of large comparative studies.
